Development of North Eastern Indian Region: Perspectives from Japan, India’s North Eastern region and Eastern Neighbors

 The Asian Confluence* in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan proposes a one day webinar on the theme  Development of North Eastern Indian Region: Indo-Japan Collaboration  for Connectivity, Commerce, Culture and Conservation”

 

The dialogue will be addressed, at the highest level both by the Foreign Secretary of India and the Japanese ambassador to India. The aim of the seminar are to :

 

  • Highlight the key importance of Indo Japan collaboration for developing a secure and prosperous North Eastern region of India in the convergence of the India’s “Act East Policy”, and “Neighborhood First Policy”, towards  a vibrant Bay of Bengal region and a “Free and Open Indo Pacific”.

 

  • Promote and create narratives which can augment bottom up understanding and ownership of the several Indo- Japanese projects of connectivity, commerce, cultural contacts augmentation, conservation and natural resource management etc. that are being planned at a central level and executed top down.

 

  • Enable further people driven ideas and creation of a regional “Third space” champion group of individuals and institutions, complimenting the “Act East Forum” who can work together to foster deeper appreciation the Indo- Japan initiatives underway for amongst the “third space” of local private players, SMEs, local administration, academia, media and civil society for shared prosperity.
