Japan can now be considered a resident developmental power in South Asia and the Indian Ocean Region. This is primarily because of its role in developmental projects in furthering connectivity across the region which is otherwise poorly connected. Japan’s investment in maritime infrastructure and creating connectivity projects has only grown in the region over the past decade.
