Japan’s deepening footprint in Northeast India

In the past decade, Northeast India has received significant importance as one of the focal points of India’s Act East Policy. New Delhi has shown renewed vigour and urgency in promoting development in the Northeast region with several big-ticket infrastructural projects being undertaken. The most recent example is the expansion of the railway network to Mizoram directly connecting Kolkata and Sairang.
