Implications of China’s Medog County Dam

This brief evaluates the potential impacts of China’s Medog Dam on water availability, ecological balance, and disaster vulnerability in the Brahmaputra basin. In doing so, it assesses the geopolitical and socio-economic ramifications for downstream nations, particularly India and Bangladesh. The author proposes frameworks for regional collaboration to ensure equitable water management and ecological preservation. For this, the author argues that India could lead a “South Asian Water Assessment Network” to negotiate collectively with China by leveraging shared interests for sustainable river management.
