Priti Patel is a well acclaimed Manipuri dancer, initiated
into the world of classical dance at an early age of 5. Through the rigorous
training she underwent under her Gurus, she excelled as a danseuse in this form
of dance and specifically in the Vaishnavite Ras Leela form of the Manipuri
dance tradition. She has presented her dance widely at festivals in India and
abroad. She has established the Anjika Centre for Manipuri Dance and Movement
Therapy in Kolkata and Imphal, where she imparts training to young dancers and
conducts research and documentation on dance. Priti Patel has received several
honours in appreciation of her work including the Mrinalini Sarabhai Award for
excellence in classical dance, the Uday Shankar Dance Award, and the Sangeet
Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Manipuri dance.
