About the Webinar

Countries across the world are facing serious consequences and damages to the economies. Although India and ASEAN countries have managed well till date in containing the spread of the Coronavirus, the COVID-19 pandemic has already disrupted normal economic activity and life in the ASEAN-India region. The region’s trade has been severely impacted. Supply chains are dismantled. Businesses are very vulnerable to the unfolding economic crisis. People have been facing a sudden loss in their incomes, causing a major drop in demand. MSMEs of the region are facing severe business losses. To rescue the economy, ASEAN countries and India have announced a range of fiscal and monetary stimulus packages. India has been extending relief materials to some of the ASEAN countries such as Myanmar. Nonetheless, this pandemic has strong foreign and trade policy effects. When the enemy is common, here comes the strong role of regional cooperation. Through a deeper cooperation, ASEAN countries and India can better tackle the crisis and provide a rewarding way forward in post-COVID period. In view of the above, ASEAN-India Centre (AIC), RIS and Asian Confluence are organising a webinar: ASEAN-India: Coping with COVID-19 Challenges and Way Forward. The Webinar will be held on 12 May 2020 between 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm IST.
