Remembering Kalam

Asian Confluence organised and hosted a condolence meeting to pay tribute to former President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam who died on 27th July 2015 in Shillong, Meghalaya. The programme was organised to commemorate the deceased personality who had undisputed impact on India and the world as a whole with his personal attributes and endeavours, who was also a poet, a writer and a scientist.
 
Prof. Basab Roy Choudhury,of IIM Shillong who attended Dr. Kalam's last lecture, shared some astonishing insights into the former President's life and his quality as a man of distinction. Other members of the audience paid their heartfelt tributes to the former President after which excerpts were read out from his book 'Transcendence: Myspiritual experience with Pramukh Swamiji’. Two teachers of Chemistry from St. Mary’s College shared their emotional moments when they heard of Dr. Kalam’s demise. The same feeling was reverberated by others who were present at the gathering. Former tea planter, Dannny Pariat praised his punctuality and opined that the people of Meghalaya, including its leaders, should imbibe the quality that was commonly associated with Dr. Kalam.
 
Dr. Abdul Kalam was a great personality and admired by all. All the school and college students, teachers, and people from other walks of life who attended the programme, talked extensively about his humility, simplicity, intelligence, punctuality and love for the nation and its people, especially its youths. Senior advocate Khalid Khan, who was chairing the meeting, ended the evening on a sombre note by observing a minute’s silence in honour of Dr. Kalam.
