Asian Confluence in collaboration with North East Slow Food & Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS) organised an interactive discussion led by Dr. Francesco Sottile, as an initiative to promote Slow Food International – a non-profit member-supported grassroots association. The event was organised as a step to revive the local food traditions in the age of fast food culture and raise awareness of the impact of our food choices.
Prof. Dr. Francesco Sottile, from the University of Palermo, Department of Agricultural and Forest Sciences, Italy highlighted the fact that everyone has the right to quality food and thus the conservation of the heritage of biodiversity, culture and inter-generational knowledge is a responsibility which everyone needs to share. This makes eating one of the fundamental pleasures of life and these are the same principles which ‘Slow Food’ stands by.
The event was successfully able to point out the importance of protecting the indigenous food traditions of North East India and that for a sustainable future of the region, there should be more focus on good, clean and fair food which goes hand in hand with the responsibility towards the environment.
