Asian Confluence in collaboration with US Consulate, Kolkata hosted a conclave “Northeast Indian Region: A strategic connector for the Indo Pacific Region” on August 18, 2022. Amb. Riva Ganguly Das, Former Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India chaired the inaugural session while Md. Shahidul Haque, Former Foreign Secretary, Bangladesh, Ms. Margaret MacLeod First Secretary, Public Diplomacy, U.S. Embassy, New Delhi and Mr. K. Moses Chalai, Secretary, North Eastern Council were the panellist for the inaugural session.
The conclave triggered policy discussion on i) trade and connectivity, ii) climate and ecology and iii) migration with the larger aim of realising the true potential of Northeast region in achieving free, open, inclusive and prosperous Indo-pacific. Post policy discussion, cultural event in collaboration with ICCR showcased different art form of local culture and highlighted the importance of culture in policy formulation. A follow-up conclave that plans to bring together policymakers, thought leaders, experts, performers, members of civil society, and members of the media from countries in the Indo-Pacific was also influenced by the roundtable in terms of its content and outline.
