Literary Evening: Poetry Readings By Dr. Diti Ronen From Israel

Date:   Wed Apr 02, 2014 - Wed Apr 02, 2014 , Hosts:   Asian Confluence

Asian Confluence in collaboration with Shillong Poetry Society of Shillong organised an “Evening of Poetry” where Dr. Diti Ronen, famed poet from Israel, enthralled the audience with the reading of her poems. The literary evening was arranged as an initiative to foster cultural exchange and encourage poets from Shillong to showcase their talent.
Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Dr. Ronen is also a theatre researcher besides being a poet. She teaches cultural policy and arts management in The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and advises on these subjects to Governmental offices, municipalities, arts funding organizations and to cultural and artistic institutions. She was also awarded four prizes and awards for her literary work, two from international poetry organizations and two were given to her by Israeli organizations.

The poetry recital by Dr. Ronen was an opportunity for the audience to experience Israeli culture and the horrors of Holocaust. Being a second-generation holocaust survivor poet herself, in her poems she deals with the heritage of women in her family, women who are brimming with power and a vitality that is never stopped, even during their deportation to the concentration camps. The event was successful in bringing a large number of local poets together to recite their poetry before the audience. The director of Asian Confluence, Mr. Sabyasachi Dutta expressed his jubilation for such a rich and cultural evening and hopes that this will be the start of a new beginning for the budding poets of Shillong.
