The purpose of the event was to promote Meghalaya as the world destination repertory.
NEFSV is a multi-business social enterprise and a division of Bluestream India Advisory Private Ltd, Mumbai, having business interests in education, tourism development, art and culture, hospitality, retail and fashion.
During the launch event, the founder and artistic director of SRT, Tarun Singh Negi (Lyngdoh) addressed the audience where he shared the aspiration behind such an initiative, which is to provide contemporary theatre practices especially in the form of applied art and applying theatre practices to developing life skills, education, healthcare, employment and others. He further added that the entire project will act as a catalyst in creating job opportunities for the local youths who are keen on making their careers in the various segments of the theatre industry. Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) regional director Mr. N. Munish Singh stressed on bringing the indigenous cultures of the region into the repertory and pointed out that the theatre in Meghalaya requires a lot more to be done in comparison to states like Assam and Manipur. Mr. Singh also stressed on the need to undertake massive field work and reach out to the rural areas in the state while advocating a "forum theatre" to highlight many of the sensitive social issues which cannot be illustrated through any other medium. By this way he wants to promote the culture and tradition of the indigenous people.
SRT founder and artistic director Tarun Singh Negi also stated that "SRT is not only committed towards developing a social environment for theatre appreciation in the region but it will use as a tool for propagating a self-sustaining, meticulous system of empowering growth and development in the Northeast." To that end, the SRT gives career prospects to the talented youngsters of the state, and it also aims “to promote Meghalaya as a world destination across continents.”
