Asian Confluence in association with Climate Change Adaptation – North Eastern Region of India (CCA-NER) and Directorate of Sericulture & Weaving, Govt of Meghalaya hosted Dr. Matias Langer to deliver a talk and engage in an interactive discussion on Eri silk and its marketing prospects in the North East region of India. The purpose of the event was to promote the sericulture industry of the region and deliberate on ways to showcase the rich produce.

Meghalaya has a sub-tropical climate which is suitable for the production of Eri silk. Dr. Langer talked extensively about encouraging the local people to produce such kind of silk which can then be promoted in the domestic and international markets for export. The Eri silk production would act as a means to protect the livelihoods of the rural sector in Meghalaya and ensure a sustained development in the region.  He emphasised on the need for improvement of the Eri Silk production that can yield more and generate more profits.

Later in the evening, the audience interacted with Dr. Langer where he emphasised on building climate resilience for the rural communities in Meghalaya. The daylong event was quite informative as the audience deliberated on the prospects of marketing the Eri silk that would trigger instant benefits and sustainable development.
