India's Look East Policy And The North East: A Cultural Viewpoint

An intellectual talk cum dinner on “India’s Look East Policy and the North East” was organized by Asian Confluence hosting the key speaker Dr. Suresh K. Goel, Director General, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), special secretary to the Union government, former Indian Ambassador to Laos, besides holding several important stints in strategic departments at the United Nations.
 
The talk focused on the prospects of North East in the light of India’s Look East policy from the cultural viewpoint. Openning the floor for discussion Dr B.B. Dutta, touched upon some important points highlighting the varied richness and depths amongst various tribes of the region, that need to be brought to the forefront, in aiming to strengthen the ties between India and East Asian countries. Furthermore, he emphasised and drew the dignitary’s attention to the role of youth “in promoting social consciousness to a new height so that we can see the oneness and harmony that existed and must be allowed to flourish amongst different social groups ridden by conflicts and antagonism.”
 
Leading the discussion Dr. Suresh Goel, in his speech spoke with conviction as he addressed the distinguished guests and shared creative ideas regarding North East featuring in cultural diplomacy by promoting dialogues between civilizations, societies and nations.
 
Present during the talk cum dinner were a distinguished gathering, which included Shri. PP Shrivastav, Member, NEC; Shri. PBO Warjri, Additional Chief Secretary; Shei. N. Munish Singh, Regional Officer ICCR, Shillong; Mr. Tokiwaio Blah, former IAS officer and social activist, local cultural artists, foreign friends among others at the Asian Confluence Conference Hall. The dialogue created an atmosphere of intent as these dignitary spoke and shared their thoughts and concerns on the topic.
