Location:   Classic Hotel, Imphal, Manipur , Hosts:   Asian Confluence

A roundtable conference was organised by Asian Confluence in collaboration with Research and Strategic Development Organisation for the North East (RESDOR-NE) in Manipur. The conference was envisaged at discussing and deliberating on enhancing the connectivity, trade and tourism between India and Myanmar as an initiative to foster developmental initiatives in the region which will be mutually beneficial for both the countries.
The roundtable conference was chaired by former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam president (RESDOR-NE). He brought the participants’ attention to the central theme of the roundtable which was to explore the space for the common people for synergy between North East India specially Manipur and Nagaland with Myanmar on socio-economic and cultural development through India’s Look East Policy. He pointed out that although there are initiatives by the Central and State Government agencies for development, cooperation and exchange, the third space – which he reckons holds great significance, has never been explored or exploited well enough between India and ASEAN countries especially with Myanmar. He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is espousing the idea of development of skill, scope and scale for training and preparing people for excellence and employment. The former Chief Minister called upon the people of North East India to extract maximum benefits from the Look East Policy. P. P. Srivastava, former member of North Eastern Council (NEC), emphasised on the fact that people of the North East need to find out the weakness among them and unite as one and promote the same value system for peace, prosperity and development of the region.
The round table conference was attended by a host of distinguished panellists namely P. P. Srivastava, former Advisor to Governor of Manipur and former member NEC New Delhi, Sabyasachi Dutta, Director Asian Confluence Centre Shillong, Alemtemshi Jamir, Ex-Chief Secretary, Nagaland Government, Professor N Mohendro, Prof Amar Yumnam of Economics Department, MU, Professor MC Arun, Anthropology Department, MU, RK Shivchandra, president Indo-Myanmar Fraternal Alliance Manipur and Myo Myint Aung, language instructor, Centre for Myanmar Studies, MU and others.
