Film Screening Of “The Flowing Sanctity”

Asian Confluence premier screened a documentary film “The Flowing Sanctity” by a Bangladesh based researcher and filmmaker Niranjan Dey that featured the cultural diversity and socio-religious harmony of the people of Bangladesh. The film stunningly captures the beautiful relationship between the man and river which are not separate but an integral part of each other.
The film is about a pilgrimage site ‘Pana Teertha’, a holy place situated at the north east part of Bangladesh near Bangladesh-India border at Tahirpur Upazila of Sunamganj district. Every year in the Bengali month of Chaitra, people from all faiths gather here for a real celebration of human life. The film also featured Chandrabati Roy Burman, renowned folksinger from Bangladesh, who presented an opening acknowledgment in the film singing the glorious experience of spiritual influence. For many who may not be aware this film also speaks about the Khasis and their lives that revolves around rivers, the attack of Laur Kingdom by the Khasis besides the roots of Jaintiapur in Bangladesh of which Jaintia Hills in present day Meghalaya is a part.
The documentary was an enthralling visual experience for the audience to witness the religious festival of “Baruni Snan” which takes place at Pana Teertha and reminiscences the ancient kingdom of Laur where the pilgrim site exists. The film showcases the age old harmonious bond between Hindus and Muslims as both the communities come together for the pilgrimage and celebrate the joyous occasion, without a hint of religious animosity.
