River Basin Management is the process of coordinating conservation, management and development of water, land and related resources across sectors within a given river basin. This has been recommended in order to maximize the economic and social benefits derived from them in an equitable manner, while preserving and restoring freshwater ecosystems wherever necessary. The objective is to protect the rivers and waterbodies by identifying and protecting the flood plains, removing encroachments, checking illegal sand mining and pollution and improving the maintenance of water infrastructure. Through this lecture, Professor Ravindra Kumar Sinha who is an authority in the field of rejuvenation and conservation of the river basins would share his perspective on the subject.
