Date:   Mon Sep 21, 2015 - Mon Sep 21, 2015
Location:   Asian Confluence Centre, Shillong , Hosts:   Asian Confluence

To celebrate the occasion of World Peace Day, Asian Confluence hosted an art exhibition featuring paintings by local artist Madhumita Ghosh. The exhibition was an initiative by veteran artiste Lou Majaw who, through his Foundation, helped organise the event.
Madhumita is a self-taught artist and otherwise trained in interior decoration, displayed paintings of Buddha in his different avatars. On her inspiration behind exhibiting the paintings of Buddha she said, “Buddha is a true symbol of inner peace which he achieved through renunciation and I wanted to send that message on World Peace Day.”
In the evening the audience were treated to songs revolving around the theme of peace sung by Lou Majaw himself and accompanied on the Blues Harp by R.G. Lyngdoh, Vice Chancellor, Martin Luther Christian University. Noted flautist and artist Benedict Hynniewta also entertained the audience on the Sansa an African musical instrument played by plucking the chords which was a complete new experience for the locals.
A panel discussion on the theme of World Peace Day was also organised which featured a host of distinguished guests like R.G. Lyngdoh, Low Majaw, Patricia Mukhim, editor of The Shillong Times, and Khalid Khan, a senior advocate. The panellists delved on the theme of peace and what it means at the personal level, in the family, clan and society. Several art aficionados visited the Asian Confluence through the day to take a look at Madhumita’s paintings.
