Location:   Asian Confluence Centre, Shillong , Hosts:   Asian Confluence

The flow of rivers is not restricted by the political boundaries. They support millions of livelihoods but the problem is it’s not available in abundance. It requires transnational cooperation towards development and preservation of such precious resources. In an attempt to relook at rivers, and conservation efforts, Asian Confluence organized and hosted a photographic exhibition titled ‘Flowing Beyond Borders’ which explored the many aspects of nature’s grandeur at its finest.
The exhibition aimed at taking people’s response of nature captured in the exhibited slides; make them realize the fact that if such a rich ecology was to perish, what will be the consequences. The efforts were in continuation to the recently concluded NADI Festival 2016. Andy Pariat was the winner of the photographic exhibition. There was also a slideshow presentation called “Naturally Beautiful: People and Nature in the North East of India” which further provided a holistic view of man and nature in the context of North East India to viewers. The evening concluded with an open discussion among invitees, which included professors, students, civil society members and bureaucrats. Delegates from Europe also took part in the discussion and addressed the deeply concerning issues in the region.
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest for the occasion Dr Axel Harneit-Sievers, India Country Head of the Heinrich BÖll Foundation of Germany. The director of Asian Confluence Mr. Sabysachi Dutta highlighted the significance of the exhibition and stressed on the need for preserving the delicate ecology that is severely threatened.
