Mr Sabyasachi Dutta, Executive Director of Asian Confluence, Visits Myanmar for Workshop on Federalism

Mr Sabyasachi Dutta, Executive Director of Asian Confluence, undertook a visit to Myanmar to participate in a workshop on federalism hosted by the Embassy of India in Yangon in collaboration with the Center for Peace and Reconciliation (CPR) on 18 November 2025. The workshop, titled “Key Features of the Indian Constitution and Federalism,” focused on India’s constitutional principles, democratic institutions, and the practical functioning of federal governance.

Mr Dutta conducted an interactive session on the “Role and Space for Regional Political Parties in India,” highlighting how regional voices play a pivotal role in strengthening democratic participation and promoting inclusive governance within India’s federal framework.

The workshop brought together representatives from 20 political parties and Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs), contributing to a constructive exchange on governance models and constitutional best practices. Distinguished speakers in the session included Amb. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to Myanmar; Mr Pradeep Nair, former Director General of Assam Rifles; Ms Rami Desai from the India Foundation; Mr Hla Maung Shwe from the Centre for Peace and Reconciliation (CPR); and Mr Soe Ning Oo of the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC).

The engagement underscores Asian Confluence’s commitment to fostering dialogue on constitutionalism, federal structures, and pathways toward peace and inclusivity in Myanmar’s evolving political landscape.
