Great Bend Dam

Asian Confluence hosted a seminar in Guwahati, global experts voiced deep concerns over China’s proposed Great Bend Dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra in India). With plans to generate 60,000 MW of power and potentially divert river flow, the dam poses a serious threat to water security, ecological balance, and disaster resilience in Northeast India and beyond.
 
From geopolitical implications and ecological concerns to strategic cooperation, the event fostered dialogue between leading experts from India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Vietnam.
 
Key voices included Claude Arpi, MP Tapir Gao, Bertil Lintner, Dr. Ranbir Singh, Prof. Anamika Barua, Neeraj Singh MANHAS Uttam Sinha Sabyasachi Dutta Riva Ganguly Das Truong Hong Tien Chhimi Dorji Pandey Nishchal Shawahiq Siddiqui Partha Jyoti Das Pahi Saikia.
