Asian Confluence Organises Round Table Discussion on “Myanmar: Building New Pathways in the Post-Election Scenario”

Asian Confluence convened a closed-door Round Table Discussion titled “Myanmar: Building New Pathways in the Post-Election Scenario” on 26 November 2025 at the India International Centre, New Delhi. Organised against the backdrop of Myanmar’s upcoming elections, the discussion aimed to assess the evolving political landscape, explore possible post-election trajectories, and identify avenues for de-escalation and renewed political dialogue.

The event brought together a visiting delegation of experts from the Institute for Strategy and Policy–Myanmar (ISP–Myanmar), along with leading Indian scholars, policy practitioners, and representatives from prominent think tanks including the Chintan Research Foundation, the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA), India Foundation, the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), and NatStrat.

The Myanmar delegation presented a comprehensive overview of the country’s shifting political landscape, noting prevailing uncertainty, competing power centres, and key challenges related to governance, administrative stability, and national reconciliation. Discussions also highlighted the upcoming elections, China’s expanding strategic and economic influence, the growing importance of rare earth minerals, and the security implications of unregulated mining in the country. Participants expressed cautious optimism regarding Myanmar’s prospects for stability and federal restructuring, underscoring the need for sustained engagement with India on governance, connectivity, and regional cooperation.

The roundtable served as a candid platform for exchanging perspectives, with participants emphasising the importance of multi-stakeholder engagement in addressing the ongoing conflict in Myanmar. Asian Confluence remains committed to advancing collaborative initiatives that contribute to peace, stability, and constructive dialogue in the region.
