Asian Confluence Hosts Book Discussion on Operation Sindoor

Asian Confluence hosted a book discussion on Red Lines Redrawn: Operation Sindoor and India’s New Normal at the Asian Confluence Centre, Shillong. The session featured the author, Major General (Dr.) Bipin Bakshi, AVSM, VSM (Retd.), Indian Army and Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS). The discussion brought together members of the strategic community, academia, civil society, media, and serving and retired defence personnel for an in-depth engagement on India’s evolving security doctrine and the operational lessons emerging from Operation Sindoor.

In his presentation, Major General (Dr.) Bakshi examined the changing contours of India’s military and strategic posture, arguing that the operation reflects a recalibration of established red lines and signals a shift in India’s response paradigm to contemporary security challenges. He remarked, “The book seeks to analyse how India’s operational and strategic responses are redefining conventional thresholds in the region. It examines not only the military dimension, but also the broader political and doctrinal implications of this shift.” He further noted, “Understanding the recalibration of red lines is critical to appreciating India’s emerging security doctrine and its implications for deterrence, escalation management, and regional order.”

The presentation was followed by a roundtable discussion and Q&A session, during which participants deliberated on issues of strategic signalling, narrative building, civil-military relations, and the intersection of domestic political will with external security imperatives.

Delivering the closing remarks, Mr Sabyasachi Dutta, Executive Director, Asian Confluence, stated, “Red Lines Redrawn provides a timely and rigorous examination of India’s evolving strategic posture. At Asian Confluence, we believe such conversations are essential to fostering informed public discourse on national security and regional stability.”

The discussion reflects Asian Confluence’s continued commitment to fostering informed conversations on issues of strategic significance and regional security.
