The Look East policy, introduced by the government of Late P.V. Narasimha has, under the leadership of India’s current Prime Minister Narendra Modi undergone a revamp. The emphasis now lies on India playing a more proactive role in south east Asia. The government has made its relations with its neighbours in this region a foreign policy priority; this new outlook thus prompting the renaming of the policy to ‘Act East’.

Highways of prosperity…

“It’s not Americans’ wealth that built roads but roads that built Americans’ wealth.” Words of President Kennedy, echo true in today’s world too. In fact, it is not just the US that this applies to. Research has shown that, worldwide, roads form the backbone of any state and lead to an economic boost. The journey for India too, from dirt paths to swanky highways, is a clear reflection of the progress the nation has made. Roads benefit all. From the aam admi slogging it out to earn his daily bread, to businessman jet setting across cities for meetings. Acting as an economic stimulus they naturally entice in prosperity and welfare.
